Life vs. Religion, J.S.

It has been over 40 years since I was first saved by His grace. The turning point of my entire Christian life, however, hinges on a single sentence uttered by Witness Lee a few years after I was saved. In a summer conference meeting for students, he said, “To be a Christian is not to join a religion, but is a matter of life - accepting Christ as our life.” This statement unveiled a whole new realm to me, radically changed my entire concept toward Christianity and revolutionized my Christian life.

Prior to that, being a young student then, my whole concept about being a Christian, was to perform a set of religious duties such as attending church meetings, listening dutifully to Sunday sermons, preaching the gospel, reading the Bible, praying, etc. They were “duties” to me, simply things that I was supposed to do, like it or not!

But, what a change has occurred since it was revealed to me that to be a Christian is not to perform a set of religious duties, but to enjoy Christ as my life (Colossians 3:4), which is living, refreshing, renewing, stimulating, energizing, uplifting, strengthening, loving. Oh, what a great difference it has made in my life. Christianity is entirely a matter of life! How I thank the Lord that this was revealed to me through Witness Lee's ministry.
